5. Jesus before Pontius Pilate
Pontius Pilate was the
governor of Rome in the province of Judea. Pilate was procurator. He was
there the governor on behalf of the Roman Emperor. Jesus was made to stand
before the governor, because as the custom was, the accused had to stand
before the judge. Pilate must come before the King Jesus on the day of the
judgement. Pilate asked the Lord Jesus: "are you the king of the Jews."
Where Jesus answered: "You say it" in other words Jesus
said, ‘Yes, I am and you said it’. The question of the Pilate was earthly and
political but the answer of Jesus was spiritual. Jesus will rule as King in
the coming world. When the day of judgement comes, the sin and traditions of
this world will be judged. Here in this world people can still hold on their
traditions, but one day all must come before the King Jesus, and there nobody
can defend anymore their traditions and their sins. So let’s repent here
in this time from all our sins and traditions. Because traditions are the
rules of the men according to the Bible, and according to the words of Jesus
Christ tradition of men are futile and it is vain to worship God. ‘Howbeit
in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the
washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. Mark
7:7,8. Their accusations Jesus
did not answer, but for their question, ‘Are you the Messiah’, Jesus
answered, ‘Yes’. Jesus said clearly to Pilate, who He was. Pilate was
surprised that Jesus was silent and did not answer the accusations, which
were against Him. Pilate did not want to condemn Jesus. When Pilate heard
that Jesus was from Galilee, which belonged to the jurisdiction of King
Herod, he decided to send Jesus to Herod, because Herod was at the
celebration in Jerusalem for the sake of Easter (Passover).
